Even before the game had started the Fillies manager warned the girls that this was not going to be an easy game, against a good side, and he was right, from the start the London girls push forward and the Fillies defence was under pressure. However as the half moved on so did the Fillies. Shortly after that a good solo run by Kayleigh Taylor netted the Fillies first goal, but the London side did not let that disrupt their flow, a long Clearance by their goal keeper was flicked on and the score was level at the half way point. In the second half it was much the same and again Taylor put the fillies in front only for London girls to equalize soon after. Tense times followed and it looked as though it may go into extra time but fear not up popped Kayleigh Taylor again to score her hat trick and put the Fillies in front again. Tough times followed with the London Girls putting on the pressure to try and save the match but the Fillies held out to book a semi final place. Well done girls
Fulston Zebra Fillies 4 - 2 Long Lane (06-01-08)
The Fillies were looking for a result today after their shock result from
the last game.It was all looking good when the Colts could only field nine
players of which the Fillies took advantage in the first half, playing good
football they went two goals to the good supplied by Kayleigh Taylor and
Sian Boswell,it should have been more but for the finishing touches. In
the second half the Fillies went into melt down which let Cliffe back into
the game and they soon punished the Fillies with a well taken goal. They
should have equalised but for a superb one handed save by the Fillies
keeper Lou Kent, manager Ian Jackson made some changes to keep the Fillies lead in tact of which they recovered to take the three points. All credit to Cliffe for a superb performance.
An own goal, A hat trick by Sian Boswell, two by Kayleigh Taylor and one
from Emma Duke, ensured that all three points went to the Fillies. The game from the start was mostly one sided but the Manager wanted the girls to play good flowing football, there were chances that the Fillies should have converted but again the finishing skills had a day off. Player of the match today was Sophie Hammond.
The last time these two teams met the Fillies came out on top, however the
wind was taken out of the Fillies sails with two quick goals from Gravesham. The Fillies came back with a goal from Sian Boswell, but the Fillies then slipped back with an unfortunate own goal late in the first half. In the second half the Fillies struck first with another Goal from Sian Boswell, with the Fillies now playing good football they were pushing
forward to find the equaliser which allowed Gravesham to capalize and
score another two quick goals. Manager Jacko went for broke to try and rescue the game but Gravesham struck again. Full marks to the Fillies who played on with some good strong football whilst the atmosphere around them was getting tense. This is now one a piece between these two teams with another away match to come.
toss won the fillies got to work with playing uphill in the first half
and were in control of the game with some good solid football, and on a
couple of occasions should have taken the lead, however they came in at
half time goalless and felt that the second half was going to be the
deciding factor as they were now playing down hill unfortunately the game
went flat, and the conviction was lack luster in places. In the last 10mins the Fillies stepped up the pace but could not find that final finish, this is two points dropped and leaves their destine in their own hands now.Player of the match for the Fillies was Emma Duke for a sterling gritty performance in the first half.
On a heavy and sticky pitch the fillies played their first of three
backlog games. It took some time to shake off the dust that was evident due to lack of match practice but all came together when player of the match Sian Boswell found the net twice to put the Fillies ahead, however things then did not go to script after that and Petts Wood equalised soon after but normal service was resumed when Kayleigh Taylor put the Fillies back into the lead. In the second half the Fillies played better football and with another goal from Taylor and a further goal from Natalie Keeys ensured the Fillies took all three points.
This was one of three backlog games that the Fillies were completing over
the next few weeks, and one of the important games to ensure second
place in the league and with the results between these two teams at one
all it was all to play for. The Fillies kept Gravesham at bay for the first twenty five minutes with player of the match Lou Kent pulling off some excellent saves as Gravesham tried to find a way through,it was inevitable that Gravesham found the net just before half time. In the second half the Fillies manager wanted more conviction and closer marking of which the Fillies did just that and had Gravesham on the ropes at times, with 10 minutes to go and the Fillies applying more pressure, a ball through the Gravesham defence was met by Emma Bareham to slot past the keeper.
After this the Fillies felt that the equaliser was on it was all hands to
the pump, with and all the team playing their part but unfortunately time
ran out,a valiant effort by all against a strong side.
The start to the last match of the season belonged to captain Abby Jackson who played the first ball at kickoff, Abby had cracked two ribs following last weeks game and was unable to play, and Both teams wanted her to maintain her 100% attendance record, after that the Fillies made the nessacary changes to accommodate the Captain's absence and it was all one way traffic from then on with player of the match Emma Bareham scoring two goals early on in the first half with another being added from a deflected shot from Kayleigh Taylor. In the second half it was much the same, but the Fillies just could not extend the lead not for the want of trying and no help from the woodwork. In the end it was three points gained and third place in the league which was celebrated by all at the end of the match. The girls would like to thank Manager Ian Jackson, assistant Jeff Duke and Karen Jackson for their support over the season and are looking forward to the next.
